How to Join and Use Study Rooms
Study rooms let you focus alongside other people in CadenceAI. Join with a 6-character code, see who's present with live presence, and use chat to stay connected. You'll need an account to take part.
To join a CadenceAI study room, open study rooms and enter the 6-character code someone shared with you. Once you're in, live presence shows who else is focusing in the room, and the room's chat lets you talk to the group. Study rooms require an account, so make sure you're signed in first.
How to join a study room with a code
Every study room has a short, shareable 6-character code. If a friend, classmate, or community has one, joining takes seconds.
- Sign in to CadenceAI (study rooms need an account — see below).
- Open the study rooms section of the app.
- Enter the 6-character room code you were given.
- Confirm to join. You'll see the room open with everyone who's currently present.
Why study rooms need an account
Study rooms are a shared, real-time space, so they require an account rather than guest mode — that's what lets the group see live presence and exchange chat messages. You can create an account or sign in with email, Apple, Google, or GitHub. If you started in guest mode, your existing data merges into your account when you sign up, so you won't lose your sessions or progress. For the full picture, see accounts, sync & sign-in.
Using live presence and chat
Once you're in a room, two things make it feel social:
- Live presence shows who is currently in the room with you in real time. Seeing other people heads-down creates gentle accountability — you're more likely to stick with your session when others are doing the same.
- Chat lets you say hello, coordinate when to start, or check in during breaks without leaving the app.
Start your own focus session as usual while you're in the room, and let the presence of the group keep you honest. It's a simple way to recreate the "library effect" wherever you are.
Making study rooms work for you
Study rooms pair well with a distraction-free setup: silence notifications, and if you're prone to app-hopping, the app blocker helps keep you in the room. Our playbook on how to study without distractions shows how shared accountability and focus tools fit together. New to CadenceAI?
